WELCOME FROM THEHEADTEACHER

Hello and welcome to King David Primary School. I am delighted to be the Head Teacher of KDPS and I am incredibly proud of this vibrant and successful school.

King David Primary School is founded on traditional Jewish values with a belief in respect, courtesy, self-discipline, diligence and the pursuit of excellence.

Our mission is to encourage each and every child to reach the highest levels of academic achievement, creativity and personal development. We aim to create a generation who will be knowledgeable and committed to their faith and values and will become outstanding citizens within the Jewish community and in the wider world.

Our ethos aims to develop open-minded, flexible and resilient individuals with the skills and attitudes to be successful in tomorrow’s society. The creation of a warm and caring environment is a founding principle of our school and we go to great lengths to care for our pupils. We are fortunate to have outstanding, forward-thinking staff who continually develop their practice and are happy to give their time and energy to nurture your children.

The pupils at King David are our best asset and we understand that they are the thing you treasure most in the world! We take the trust of our parents very seriously and we are committed to individual pupil progress, safety and well- being at all times. OFSTED recognised this in April 2023 by judging us OUTSTANDING in every area of the inspection framework. The inspector wrote, “Pupils thrive at this welcoming and supportive school.”
I would like to thank the parents of our pupils and other stakeholders for their continued commitment and support towards the staff and pupils at our school.

OUR ETHOS
& VALUES
The 6 points of the Star of David point to the 6 areas we promote.
Valuing every child

We believe that every child should be given the opportunity and support to achieve their potential through a love of learning. We monitor the development of our pupils and encourage each child to make the best progress they can from their individual starting points. We offer a broad and varied curriculum which caters to every child. We instil in our pupils a love of learning and encourage them to become happy and confident, independent learners.

Tools and Skills to lead a full Jewish Life

We instil a love for Israel in our pupils. Children learn about the language and culture of Israel in weekly sessions led by our Israeli gap year students. Yom Ha’atzmaut (Israel Independence Day) is a major event in our school diary. We raise money each year for Israeli charities.

Development of good Middot (character traits)

At KDPS we instil Jewish values in our pupils. We teach them to be kind, caring and respectful to others. We take part in many chessed (kindness) activities both in the local community and the wider British society. Our ‘Veohavta Leraycha Kamocha – Love your neighbour as yourself’ award rewards examples of beautiful character traits (midst tovot). Our Ready, Respectful, Safe motto helps to develop good character traits.

Equal opportunities and support for every pupil

We aim to provide equal opportunities for boys and girls in all aspects of secular and Jewish learning. We support pupils of all ability to ensure they can access our curriculum and participate in every part of school life. We prepare all our pupils for the next stage of their education – moving on to secondary school.

Pride and Self Confidence as British Jews

We celebrate our children’s Jewish heritage and give them a love for Jewish life. We also instil a sense of pride in being British, celebrating national events and commemorating British heroes and events such as Remembrance Day. We promote British values within school. These include: Democracy; the rule of law; individual liberty; mutual respect and tolerance for those who are of a different background or faith.

Identification with Israel

We instil a love for Israel in our pupils. Children learn about the language and culture of Israel in weekly sessions led by our Israeli gap year students. Yom Ha’atzmaut (Israel Independence Day) is a major event in our school diary. We raise money each year for Israeli charities.
